So much of the trouble and suffering in our lives rises out of our false assumptions. ~ M. Catherine Thomas
How true that is! We can eliminate so much needless worry and suffering from our lives if we will stop assuming we know and instead determine TO KNOW. Knowing may take more work, but we might ask ourselves… “Do I want more worry or more work?” If the answer is more worry then continue to be an assUMER. If the answer is more work..then get to work, and get TO KNOW.
Get “to know” what? What is really going on, who is really in charge (hint it may be you), and what the real goals and desired outcomes are(they may or may not be clearly defined). We might also get to know if anyone has been through something similar (very good chance they have), then we can get to know what they did about it, learned from it…and so on. Most challenges are unique to us, but rarely are most challenges unique. They have been faced before, and most have even been overcome….by people very much like us.
I heard this recently…”When doubts come…and they will come, don’t doubt your faith, doubt your doubts.” Similarly when we find ourselves in the midst of challenges and assuming the worst…may we not instead flip our assumtions and assume the best? Or better yet we just eliminate false assumptions by gaining a real understanding. An understanding of what’s real.
