1843 - Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol went on sale. Dickens began writing the book in September 1843 and completed it in just six weeks. A Christmas Carol remains highly popular, has never been out of print and has been adapted to film, stage, opera and other media numerous times.
1972 - The historic Apollo 17 space mission came to an end after 12 days. The longest of all the moon missions, it featured the only night launch of the program, the first professional scientist to walk on the moon, the most samples gathered (243 pounds) and the lengthiest moonwalks. Apollo 17 was the last manned mission to the moon

Love Dickens and was wowed when I found out how quickly he completed A Christmas Carol. Such a masterpiece.
