this reminds me of one of my favorite sayings by Teddy Rosevelt.  I can't quote the whole thing, but I am sure you have seen it.  It basically says the credit goes to the guy who is in the arena, taking the chance to get dirty and bloody rather than the guy who sits on the side and criticizes.
