		<description>Kirk -
I remember when you visited Goucher College here in Baltimore almost exactly two years ago, and in a parking lot conversation after your presentation with my wife Mary and I, you asked about the keys to staying married for what was then 25 years, now 27. I answered "persistence', and I think you were a little surprised at that. I'm not sure I did a good job of explaining why I felt that was an appropriate word, but I think this list does a good job of illustrating. I particularly like this one: "I will never surrender to discouragement or despair no matter what seeming obstacles may confront me." We have been through our share, but are still together, and our individual personalities, as well as our realtionship, are much the better for having persisted through the obstacles.

I think many times giving up and going on to something/someone else is the easy answer for relationship problems. Persistence, working through things (life) together, committment to each other and communications have led to our longetivity. Accepting the fact that when you put two people together things will not always go well, but it's that committment and persistence that help you get through and continue on.
