The Mean Guy in the Neighborhood

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

I’m attending an awesome 2 day training course on one of my most favorite books “CRUCIAL CONVERSATIONS” taught by the folks at Vital Smarts.  I pulled today’s T4D from their way cool training manual.

“People were always talking about how mean this guy was who lived on our block.  But I decided to go see for myself.  I went to his door, but he said he wasn’t the mean guy, the mean guy lived in that house over there. ‘No you stupid idiot, ‘ I said, ‘that’s my house.’ “  ~ Jack Handey

Don’t be the mean guy - and not know it!  :)

The Wisdom of Ralph Marston

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

T4D subscriber Carla shares today’s T4D with us…from one her favored sources.  Ralph Marston

Wealth is not a specific number or amount. It is an attitude.

There is more than enough abundance in the world. It is yours to the extent that you imagine it to be and then
proceed to live and to genuinely act according to your expectations.

The less you need, the more you have. When you need nothing, you have it all.

What you grab from others will be of no use to you. It is the value you’re able to provide to others that creates
enduring wealth.

You can be wealthy this very moment. For when you sincerely see yourself as wealthy, you truly are.

Look within yourself and discover the true wealth that is unique to you. And find real joy in building upon that
wealth, day after day.

Leaders, Teachers, & Mothers

Sunday, May 11th, 2008

I have long maintained that great leaders are great teachers - and great teachers inspire rather than require.  Great Mothers are teachers…and seek to inspire a desire in their children knowing that desire is something you cannot require.  Church yesterday was filled with tributes to Mothers and Motherhood…and one speaker shared the wonderful words of William Ross Wallace …written more than 125 years ago.  Titled - The Hand That Rocks The Cradle
Is The Hand That Rules The World
(I really enjoyed it and hope you do as well)

Blessings on the hand of women!
Angels guard its strength and grace,
In the palace, cottage, hovel,
Oh, no matter where the place;
Would that never storms assailed it,
Rainbows ever gently curled;
For the hand that rocks the cradle
Is the hand that rules the world.
Infancy’s the tender fountain,
Power may with beauty flow,
Mother’s first to guide the streamlets,
From them souls unresting grow–
Grow on for the good or evil,
Sunshine streamed or evil hurled;
For the hand that rocks the cradle
Is the hand that rules the world.
Woman, how divine your mission
Here upon our natal sod!
Keep, oh, keep the young heart open
Always to the breath of God!
All true trophies of the ages
Are from mother-love impearled;
For the hand that rocks the cradle
Is the hand that rules the world.
Blessings on the hand of women!
Fathers, sons, and daughters cry,
And the sacred song is mingled
With the worship in the sky–
Mingles where no tempest darkens,
Rainbows evermore are hurled;
For the hand that rocks the cradle
Is the hand that rules the world.

Thanks to my My Mom, your Mom, and to all Great Moms everywhere who rocked our cradles.

Contribution and Happiness

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

What a person is contributes much more to their happiness than what he has, or how he or she is regarded by others.  ~– Arthur Schopenhauer

My shortcomings vs your Defects!

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

“Whenever I dwell for any length of time on my own shortcomings, they gradually begin to seem mild, harmless, rather engaging little things, not at all like the staring defects in other people’s characters.”  ~ - Margaret Halsey

Upon what our happiness depends

Monday, May 5th, 2008

“I am more and more convinced that our happiness or our unhappiness depends far more on the way we meet the events of life than on the nature of those events themselves.”  ~ Karl Wilhelm Von Humboldt - 1767-1835, German Statesman

Jeff, a T4D subscriber shared this with me last week….it’s very good.

Kirk, I thought I would share this powerful story about caring and the value/impact it can have on people (employees).  http://www.blueribbonmovie.com/

Finally - because I wanted to add a picture….

Bruce Lee and a “Renaissance of Wonder”

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

Just watched a movie with my sons called “The Forbidden Kingdom” with Jackie Chan and Jet Li this week.  It was terrificly entertaining.  So that is my justification for the first part of todays “Thought 4 the Day”.

“Defeat is a state of mind. No one is ever defeated until defeat has been accepted as reality. To me, defeat in anything is merely temporary, and its punishment is but an urge for me to greater effort to achieve my goal. Defeat simply tells me that something is wrong in my doing; it is a path leading to success and truth.” ~ Bruce Lee

This quote was sent to me this week… and I really really like it.

We need a renaissance of wonder. We need to renew, in our hearts and in our souls, the deathless dream, the eternal poetry, the perennial sense that life is miracle and magic.  — E. Merrill Root (1895-1973) American Writer

Somewhere between “life is a miracle” and “life is what you make it” is a space where our decisions and divine nature allow us to participate in the process of creation and become the makers of miracles.   ~ Kirk Weisler (Hey, I said that?)Â
