The cynical view is tough way to go - also saying "no one" is a bit too all inclusive in my view. Still - it does seem that a large percentage, even a majority just want to be left alone - they want to complain about their mundane state... they want to blame others for it... and they do not seem to be willing to take any personal steps out of the pits they are in. Still it is my belief, my hope and my experience that their is a percentage of people who though they may have given in, they have not given up. These people can be reached, inspired and led to higher ground...by the actions of someone who is willing to care...someone who is willing to lead.

Kirk, this is a bit cynical about the overall value of leadership. Am I reading it right that noone actually aspires to be better, that the average person wants only to be left alone in his everyday, mundane trappings?
Are we too dense to recognize one who has the skills to lead us and make our jobs, our lives better?

I, and I know you do, have a more positive attitude about the value of a good leader, that he can often cause positve changes in others' lives.
